Parade competition will be judged as follows:


Drum Majors – Possible points
Command and Control = 40 pts.
Marching = 30 pts.
Conducting = 30 pts.
Total = 100pts.

Visual Effect – Possible Points
Carriage of Equipment/Poise = 12 pts.
Interval & Alignment = 12 pts.
Uniformity = 12 pts.
Originality = 12 pts.
Difficulty = 12 pts.
Precision = 15 pts.
General Effect = 25 pts.
Total = 100 pts.

Band - Possible Points
Music Performance = 40 pts.
Marching Performance = 30 pts.
General Effect = 30 pts
Total = 100 pts.

Total possible score for the parade is 300 points.

The parade begins at 3:30 pm and all bands are expected to be at the staging area on Lee Street, in Whiteville by 2:30pm and in line and ready to go at 3:00 pm. The parade will end at the Court House at approximately 4:10 pm. Bands will need to have buses near the end of the parade route to pick students up. Whiteville High School parking lot is a good area to meet up.

Halftime show will be judged as follows:

Drum Majors – Possible points
Carriage, Poise, Appearance = 10 pts.
Leadership = 10 pts.
Commands and signals = 10 pts.
Showmanship = 20 pts.
Conducting Technique = 50 pts.
Total = 100pts.

Auxiliary – Possible Points
Marching and Maneuvering = 40 pts.
General Effect – Performance = 15 pts.
General Effect – Showmanship = 20 pts.
General Effect – Repertoire = 25 pts.
Total = 100 pts.

Marching - Possible Points
Accuracy and Definition, Timing = 15 pts.
Individual Performance = 10 pts.
Content and Exposure = 10 pts
Total = 35 pts.

Music - Possible Points
Tone Quality, Precision = 10 pts
Intonation = 10 pts.
Balance = 10 pts.
Content = 15 pts.
Total = 45 pts.

Drumline - Possible Points
Balance And Dynamics = 20 pts.
Playing Patterns = 20 pts.
Sticking Uniformity = 20 pts.
Use of special instruments = 10 pts.
Flash = 10 pts.
General Appearance = 10 pts.
Overall Contribution = 10 pts.
Total = 100 pts.

General Effect - Possible Points
Repertoire, Arrangements = 5 pts.
Musical Effect = 5 pts.
Visual Effect = 5 pts.
Coordination = 5 pts.
Total = 20 pts.

Total possible score for the halftime competition is 300 points.
Total possible score for the “Battle of the Bands” is 375 points, (25% of the parade and 100% of the halftime show).

Each band will be allowed 25 minutes to perform. This will include set up time, performance and tear down time. Each group is required to perform for a minimum of 8 minutes. Buses and equipment trailers will park in the parking lot on the right hand side of the Fair Grounds as you enter the facility. Parking area will be marked. This area will be for buses and equipment trailers only! Individuals arriving in personal vehicles must park in the regular parking lot. Warm up location will be in the same area as the parking area. No bands will be allowed to warm up in the competition area. Tuning will be allowed in the competition area but not while another group is performing. Columbus County Fair will provide Trucks and trailers to move the pit crew and equipment from the parking area to the performance area and back to the parking area. A 100 yard performance field striped off just like a football field with hash marks and yardage markers will be provided for the competition. Each band participating will be given free passes for each person (band, guard, pit crew, equipment and bus drivers) to enter the fair grounds after the competition. However, if they wish to ride the rides they will have to purchase a ride pass. The awards ceremony will not be a full retreat. Only Directors, Drum Majors and Captains will be allowed on the field for the presentation of awards. The competition will be limited to the first six bands committing to perform. Cash awards and trophies will be given in one division. CCAF will do everything possible to make this event fair and enjoyable for all. The decisions of the judges are final. Judges stand for the parade will be located at First Citizens Bank next to City Hall. Bands must perform during the parade as well as at the Fair Grounds.

Half Time Show
Band Score – 1st & 2nd Place Trophies
Drum Line – 1st & 2nd Place Trophies
Horn Line – 1st & 2nd Place Trophies
Drum Majors - 1st & 2nd Place Trophies
Visual Ensemble - 1st & 2nd Place Trophies

Combination parade and half time show determines the overall champion:

Overall – Grand Champion = Trophy & $500.00.
2nd Place = Trophy & $100.00.

All bands will be given a $75.00 participation award. Parade Line-up to be announced.
